South Carolina, from the ridiculous to the sublime

Our hood ornament.
We have a very brave puppy these days.
When he has his life jacket on he thinks he can go anywhere, anytime.
Here we are heading south towards what I think is one of the most
beautiful spots on the whole trip.
Traveling down the Intracoastal you really get to see two worlds.
This leg of the trip really showcases that,
with some of the most expensive
and some of the most derelict properties on the shoreline.
Here we are entering the Little River Inlet
just north of Myrtle Beach
and what do we see but a gambling boat
coming in from the morning run offshore
beyond the jurisdiction of the authorities
to let little old ladies from Columbia,South Carolina or
Nashville, Tennessee pull the lever on a slot machine.
In this shot we get to see gondolas carrying golfers
across the Intracoastal to play the next hole!
Just as the outlet malls with docks
and the fast food drive ups by water begin to wear you down
you enter the Waccamaw River.
It is stunning in it's beauty.
We are winding around bend after bend
 of huge cypress trees
no houses, cars or stores to be seen.
Wacca Wache Marina.
We have stayed here several times over the years
because of the good facilities, nice folks and
the fact that it is just about in the middle of the river passage
 away from all the foolishness.
As we pulled in to dock we looked up
and lo and behold there was a boat we knew tied up at the marina.
Maine Man, Michael and Becky Carmichael's Ellis thirty six
was there piloted by their son Austin.
 These are Useppa folks
and they have recently moved to Florence, South Carolina
Austin was boat riding with some friends for lunch when we arrived.
It is a very small world.
After traversing some very shallow water,
the jet skis and the bridges
the Capt. needs to relax and this river is the place to do it.
Sport's favorite spot when we are tied up.
 Checking things out!
A truly beautiful part of the Intracoastal Waterway.
