Mile Fifty.
Coinjock, North Carolina
We have left the Chesapeake behind
as well as the states of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey,
Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
Coinjock is famous among those that traverse the Intercoastal Waterway,
the marina is on a land cut between the Chesapeake and the Albemare Sound.
Cheap diesel, a thirty two ounce prime rib and it's a great jumping off place.
There are two other marinas here that do no business,
must be the prime rib.
Duck blinds in the Albemare grow large,
the folks on the Chesapeake
or in Florida would think they had a mansion!
This is the Alligator River to Pungo River canal,
a land cut almost straight for twenty miles.
This takes you from the Albemare Sound
to the Pungo river and on to Pamlico Sound.
If this wasn't here one would have to skirt around inside the Outer Banks
through some pretty shallow and sometimes bumpy water.
That trip would be a lot longer as well.
Belhaven, North Carolina
This trip is turning into a greatest hits of the ICW
(Intercoastal Waterway for those that might not be able to figure that out).
Belhaven has been a staple for yachtsmen for decades.
A small out of the way town filled with friendly people
and very strategically placed.
Our home for the night, Belhaven Waterway Marina,
the nicest couple run the marina and as you can see the puppy,
Sport, didn't have to go far to play or poop!
Downtown Belheaven, big place huh?
This is all there is,
unless you want to walk a couple of miles to the Food Lion.
Spoon River Artworks and Market
This place was amazing, we had dinner here and it was world class.
I don't care where you go but this would do well by comparison.
Farm to Table and I mean farm to table!
Our host owned one of the supplying farms.
River Forest Manor, this was The place to go for many years,
no decades but fell into decline and disrepair.
We are happy to report that a major renovation is under way,
it is now owned by a group of local businessmen
that realize how important the ICW is to the town
and want to bring back some of the luster of years gone by.
Meanwhile back at the Waterway Marina we were happy,
relaxed and full of a wonderful meal
and probably enough leftovers for two more meals!
